OPSB Members Achieve Certification & Exceed State-Mandated Training Requirements for 2025
(New Orleans – February 2, 2026) — The Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) is proud to announce that all seven of its members have successfully completed and exceeded the state-required training and instruction for the calendar year 2025, as mandated by Act 705 of the 2011 Louisiana Legislature. This accomplishment was formally recognized through Resolution No. 03-26, adopted unanimously during the board's business meeting on January 22, 2026.
In accordance with Louisiana law, each school board member must complete a minimum of six hours of training covering school laws, board powers and responsibilities, educational trends, research, and policy. Additionally, members are required to complete one hour of annual ethics training. The OPSB members not only met these obligations but surpassed them, demonstrating their commitment to excellence in governance and public education.
The resolution highlights the following board members who have fulfilled these requirements: Leila Jacobs Eames, Olin G. Parker, Katherine Baudouin, Carlos Luis Zervigon, Gabriela Biro, KaTrina Chantelle Griffin, and Nolan Marshall, Jr. The vote on the resolution was unanimous, with all members present and voting in favor.
Further elevating this achievement, the Louisiana School Boards Association (LSBA) has recognized these members under its voluntary Certified School Board Member program. By earning 20 or more LSBA-approved continuing learning units during the 2025 calendar year, including professional development from local, state, and national sources, the board members have attained the prestigious Certified School Board Member designation. This voluntary initiative underscores their dedication to ongoing education and leadership in advancing Louisiana's public schools.
"January was School Board Member Recognition Month, and it was a fitting time to celebrate the hard work and proactive approach of our board members," said Leila Jacobs Eames, President of the Orleans Parish School Board. "Their commitment to exceeding training standards ensures that OPSB continues to make informed decisions that benefit our students, educators, and community."
The OPSB remains focused on fostering a high-quality education system in New Orleans, with board members leading by example through continuous professional growth.
