NOLA Public Schools Ranks as a Top Improving System for LEAP 


(New Orleans – July 3, 2025) — NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) is delighted to announce that we have been recognized as one of the top improving systems overall for 3-12 mastery+, with an impressive +2% increase in student performance.


"Our district's continued improvement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, educators, and leaders. I am proud of our progress and applaud our schools, families, and community for their partnership in our students' success," said Dr. Fateama Fulmore, Superintendent of NOLA Public Schools. "We are more than excited about these meaningful accomplishments, while understanding that our work is not done."



Key Highlights of the 2024-2025 LEAP Test Results:

  • Overall Growth: The mastery rates for students in Orleans Parish increased by 2 percentage points, from 27% in 2024 to 29% in 2025. This marks a continuation of the upward trend from the low of 19% in 2021.
  • Subject-Specific Gains: Mastery and above rates in English Language Arts (ELA) increased from 36% to 37%, while Math proficiency rose from 24% to 26%. Science proficiency improved from 22% to 23%.


School-Level Achievements:

  • Top Schools for Achievement: Benjamin Franklin High School tied for the 2nd highest mastery+ rate in the state, with 95% of students earning mastery or above. The Willow School is the 9th highest in the state for percentage of students at mastery or above in grades 3-8, with 88%.
  • Top Performers: Sophie B. Wright Institute of Academic Excellence led the way with an 11-point increase in mastery and above rates. George Washington Carver High School and Frederick Douglass High School had a 9-point increase in mastery and above rates. Andrew Wilson Charter School led the way for our K-8 schools with a 7-point increase in mastery and above rates. Martin Behrman Charter Academy of Creative Arts & Sciences and Edward Hynes Charter School - Parkview also showed significant improvements with gains of 6 points each.


The data is promising with opportunities for improvement and challenges to address. Enhancing outcomes for every child is a top priority. Through collective efforts, every student in NOLA Public Schools will grow, achieve, and thrive at their highest potential.


"These outcomes underscore our district's resilience and persistence toward delivering on our promise of a high-quality education for every child," said Dr. Fulmore. "While we acknowledge the hard work ahead, our commitment to progress remains steadfast.
