10.16.2020 NOLA-PS Superintendent & State Superintendent of Education to Tour NOLA-PS Schools

Superintendents to discuss how schools are doing in the midst of COVID-19.

WHAT: Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr. will host Louisiana State Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley to provide a first-hand look at how schools are doing as they return to in-person learning during a pandemic.

WHEN: Monday, October 19 • 4:15 PM

WHERE: Benjamin Franklin Elementary • 1116 Jefferson Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70115

WHY:
With in-person learning underway, Dr. Lewis is looking forward to welcoming Dr. Cade and sharing how the District’s Roadmap to Reopening measures are guiding schools and helping keep our school community safe.

“It will be an honor to host Dr. Cade, a champion for – and product of – public education who has invested his entire professional career in improving the lives of Louisiana’s children,” said Dr. Lewis. “Our District is proud to share with him best practices and lessons learned, during these unparalleled times.”

The District, as a charter school authorizer, has taken the role of providing effective guidelines for schools to keep our students, teachers, and staff safe during our phased reopening. This allowed school leaders and staff to focus on their students’ needs and support educators in the development and implementation of distance learning and in-person instruction.

“We applaud our school leadership in quickly pivoting and meeting the needs of our students and families, as well as continuing their commitment to provide a high-quality education for our students,” Lewis said.

All in all, this partnership between the District and the schools presents a united front in keeping our students, teachers, staff, and community safe during this challenging time.

Last, but not least, the Superintendents would like to thank the Orleans Parish community for putting in the hard work to help get our students back in the classroom. They appreciate everyone’s adherence to wearing face coverings, washing their hands, and social distancing. Thank you!
