NOLA Public Schools to Remain Closed Friday, January 24; Normal Operations to Resume Monday

(New Orleans – January 23, 2025) — In light of continued icy conditions and their potential impact on transportation and essential services, all NOLA Public Schools (Charters and The Leah Chase School) will remain closed on Friday, January 24. Schools are set to resume normal operations on Monday, January 27.

All District offices will operate remotely on Friday to ensure continued support for families.

This decision was made out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our students, families, and staff. The icy conditions have disrupted critical services, including food service delivery and transportation systems. Additionally, the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) has announced its suspension of services until Monday, further complicating travel for families and staff.

Side roads and access routes remain hazardous, posing additional challenges for school buses and personal vehicles. The delay also allows additional time for schools to ensure HVAC systems and pipes are fully operational, and for transportation providers to prepare buses for safe operations.

Virtual Enrollment Support for Families Continues
District offices will continue to operate remotely on Friday, January 24, maintaining essential services and virtual support for families. Enrollment assistance for the New Orleans Common Application Process (NCAP) will operate as usual and be available virtually on Friday from 8:00 AM to Noon and from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Families can make virtual appointments via enrollnolaps.com/connect or call 504-910-8500 to speak to a Student Enrollment Coordinator.

As a reminder, the NCAP deadline has been extended to Wednesday, January 29, to provide families with additional time to complete their applications. An in-person Enrollment Support Day will also be held on Saturday, January 25, from 9:00 AM to Noon at Mahalia Jackson Elementary, located at 2405 Jackson Ave., New Orleans, LA 70113.

Stay Informed
NOLA Public Schools remains committed to keeping our community informed. Updates will be communicated through our website, social media, and local news media. Individual schools will also communicate directly with families to share specific details and updates.

We thank our families for their patience and understanding during this time. Please continue to stay safe and warm.
