NOLA Public Schools: Ensuring Scholar Safety Amid Boil Water Advisory

(New Orleans – August 8, 2024) — The health and safety of our scholars are the top priorities at NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS). In light of the ongoing precautionary Boil Water Advisory affecting the entire Eastbank and portions of the Westbank (including Algiers Point), NOLA-PS urges all affected schools to continue following these safety measures:

  • Restrict the use of all water fountains.
  • Use hand sanitizer after washing hands with soap and water.
  • Review the use of tap water with food service staff when preparing food.
  • Consider these precautions for all athletic practices and after-school programs that may involve water.

For The Leah Chase School, our district's first new direct-run traditional public school in nearly two decades, the following specific measures have been implemented:

  • All cooking is done using bottled water.
  • Only canned fruit is used; no "fresh" fruit.
  • Food can be cooked in steamers if contained in bags.
  • All water fountains are covered.
  • Students receive two bottles of water, with additional bottles available if needed.

We'd like to assure families that the health and safety of your scholars are being meticulously looked after. We remain committed to prioritizing their well-being as we work towards a successful start to the 2024-2025 school year.
