(New Orleans – November 25, 2024) — NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) proudly announces the appointment of Nyesha Veal, as the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the school system. With a proven track record of financial leadership and a deep commitment to educational excellence, Veal will oversee the financial operations of the district, ensuring the effective stewardship of resources to support student success.

Veal brings a wealth of experience to the role, including her most recent position as Comptroller for the NOLA-PS, where she managed a $700 million financial portfolio and led a team of 10 professionals across accounting, payroll, budgeting, and grants. Prior to her work at the school board, Veal served as Grants Analyst at ReNEW Schools, where she oversaw grant accounts contributing $10 million annually to the organization's revenue. In this role, she worked closely with program managers to ensure financial compliance and efficient management of restricted funds, supporting vital educational initiatives.

Veal also honed her financial skills at Brown Greer PLC, where she served as a Financial Claims Reviewer. "I'm excited about Nyesha's opportunity to serve as Chief Financial Officer for NOLA-PS," said Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams. "Her deep understanding of school finance, coupled with her unwavering dedication to public education, makes her the ideal leader to guide the district's fiscal strategy. Veal's leadership will ensure the funding NOLA-PS manages supports the scholars and families of New Orleans."

"I am honored to serve as Chief Financial Officer for NOLA Public Schools. As a Louisiana native and a passionate advocate for education, I am committed to ensuring our financial resources are maximized to benefit our students and schools. Together, we will build on our successes and work toward a brighter future for our community," said Veal.

Nyesha Veal holds a Master of Science in Information Systems from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Louisiana College. She is an active member of the Government Finance Officers Association and is pursuing a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
