NOLA-PS Statement on Passing of Edgar L. “Dooky” Chase, III

(New Orleans – February 22, 2024) — It is with a heavy heart that NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) acknowledges the passing of a cherished member of the New Orleans community, Edgar L. "Dooky" Chase III. On behalf of NOLA-PS, we extend our deepest condolences to the Chase family during this difficult time.

Dooky III was not only a beloved patriarch of the Chase family but also a passionate New Orleanian who dedicated his life to serving and strengthening our community. His impact reached far beyond as he served on numerous local, state, and regional boards, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of our city.

In addition to his roles as a CPA and attorney, Dooky III was a lifelong educator and university administrator, shaping the lives of thousands of scholars and young professionals through his dedication to education and mentorship. His principled nature, unwavering commitment to service, and profound faith in the power of love for humanity were the guiding lights of his remarkable life.

As we mourn the loss of this extraordinary individual, we also celebrate the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and an unyielding love for both his family and our broader community. Dooky's spirit will forever live on, and we are grateful for the invaluable contributions he made to the education and well-being of our city.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Chase family during this difficult time. May they find solace in the memories of a life well-lived and the enduring impact Edgar L. "Dooky" Chase III had on the lives of those he touched.
