NOLA-PS Announces Community Meetings for The Leah Chase School

(New Orleans – March 21, 2024) — Eager to embark on a journey that signifies a monumental milestone in the city's educational history, NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) proudly announces the commencement of community meetings for the new, direct-run Leah Chase School – the first traditional public school for the district in nearly two decades.

"I'm grateful to the community for their invaluable input as we plan to open The Leah Chase School," said Dr. Avis Williams, NOLA-PS Superintendent. "This exciting work reflects our dedication to providing an exceptional education, deeply rooted in New Orleans' culture and aligned with the values of Leah Chase."

Named in honor of the esteemed New Orleans culinary icon and community leader, Leah Chase, The Leah Chase School aspires to be a beacon of cultural richness, echoing the vibrant tapestry of New Orleans' history. Rooted in culturally responsive teaching and learning, the school's educational programs will celebrate the diverse backgrounds and experiences of its scholars, paying homage to Leah Chase's enduring legacy.

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, NOLA-PS recognizes the importance of community engagement. To ensure transparency and collaboration, we are hosting a series of interactive meetings. These gatherings serve to inform prospective families and community members about our vision, provide enrollment details, gather feedback, and address any questions or concerns.

"All voices are welcome and essential," said Dr. Williams. "Our success hinges on the support and partnership of community stakeholders from our neighbors, families and elected officials to our teachers, leaders and staff ."

The community meetings will be held in the school's cafeteria - 2727 S Carrollton Ave, New Orleans, LA 70118. The dates/times are scheduled as follows:

  • Thursday, March 28, 2024 ● 6:00 PM
  • Wednesday, April 17, 2024 ● 6:00 PM
  • Thursday, May 9, 2024 ● 6:00 PM

We encourage the community to RSVP to the meetings, via this link.

These gatherings serve as a platform for collaboration, ensuring that The Leah Chase School thrives as a testament to New Orleans' resilience and vitality.

NOLA-PS remains committed to transparency, keeping families and the community abreast of our progress as we march towards the school's opening day and beyond.
