Charter Organization: Contact school for more information
Authorizer: BESE
Mission Statement / Programmatic Model:
New Harmony empowers each student to actively direct their own learning. As our name suggests, students will work to find new harmonies in order to restore balance that has been lost in our coastal communities, finding new ways of sustaining ourselves in an uncertain future. Learning happens through the lens of coastal restoration & preservation. Each student works on relevant, rigorous projects, & engages with the community through interest-based fellowships, working alongside mentors on real problems. Students practice resilience & understand ecology, prepared for college, career, & beyond.
SCHOOL PERFORMANCE
Most New Orleans public schools are charter schools, public schools governed by non-profit boards. Each board is given a contract to operate their charter school for a number of years. When the contract is up for renewal, the Orleans Parish School Board or Louisiana Department of Education uses school performance to determine if the contract should be renewed. If the school hasn’t demonstrated acceptable performance, it may close at the end of the school year, or be taken over by a new non-profit board.
