Orleans Parish School Board to Recess after Day 1 of Interviews for the New Superintendent of NOLA-PS

Candidates will be selected Friday to move forward in the selection process.

(New Orleans – March 10, 2022) — The Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) will recess its special meeting this evening after completing the first day of virtual interviews for candidates to be the next Superintendent of Schools for NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS).

OPSB members entered executive session Thursday around 8 a.m., starting a two-day process to interview 15 candidates for the top position in the District. They will recommence the executive session for the remaining virtual interviews at 8 a.m. Friday.

No action will be taken Thursday, but the Board is expected to select the candidates who will move to the referencing phase of the process at the end of the day, Friday. After the interviews are complete, the board will deliberate over the candidates in executive session. The board will return from executive session no earlier than 4:45 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

As with other board meetings, the community is invited to submit public comment cards to speak on the action item. Given the length of this meeting, cards will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

The ongoing special meeting is the latest phase in selecting the next Superintendent after Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr. announced in June that he would be stepping down at the end of the 2021-2022 school year.

A list of the candidates can be found by viewing the agenda in Board Docs: https://nolapublicschools.com/community/board-info/board-meeting-materials.

A profile of the position and a summary of community engagement can be found at Superintendent Search website: https://nolasuperintendentsearch.com/.
