*Public is invited to participate in event VIRTUALLY*

WHAT:

180 years ago, in 1841, public education was born in the City of New Orleans. Join us as NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) hosts a virtual event celebrating and commemorating this milestone. The event is designed to showcase the history and progress the school district has made over nearly two centuries.

NOLA-PS Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr. will be joined by former U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, who helped secure a $1.8-billion-dollar lump sum from FEMA to rebuild schools post-Katrina. Together, they will highlight the importance of public education as a public good and cornerstone of a healthy democracy that works to produce strong, just, civic-minded leaders of tomorrow.

White House Senior Advisor to President Biden and NOLA-PS alumnus, Cedric Richmond, and Mayor LaToya Cantrell will provide remarks during the anniversary event, via video presentations.

ALL MEDIA MUST RSVP TO COMMUNICATIONS@NOLAPUBLICSCHOOLS.COM BY 5 PM • MARCH 25, 2021, IF YOU PLAN ON ATTENDING. PLEASE NOTE TO LIMIT YOUR CREWS TO NO MORE THAN 2 PEOPLE.
