(New Orleans – May 28 2021) – NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS), in partnership with CORE, Crescent Care, DePaul Community Health Centers (DCHC), and Ochsner, will expand its mobile COVID-19 vaccine pilot program to eligible students 12 years and older, starting Wednesday, June 2.
NOLA-PS is proudly working with its community health partners to provide access to Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine for students 12 and older, with parental consent. CORE will also offer the Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccine to students who are 18. Each of these vaccines is 100% effective in preventing hospitalizations and deaths from the coronavirus.
"Expanding our mobile vaccine pilot program to our children 12 and older is a bright step in protecting the health and safety of our students and teachers in our summer programs and beyond," said NOLA-PS Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr. "The more our school community gets vaccinated, and the community in general, the closer we'll all be to getting our school life back to normal. We are looking forward to having all students return to in-person learning this fall."
The mobile vaccination opportunity has been offered to all NOLA-PS enrichment or summer camp programs interested in providing the service on their campuses. More than 35 summer programs have expressed an interest in participating in the pilot program and more are signing up every day. We encourage families to reach out to the leadership of their summer programs to see if they're offering the vaccine through the NOLA-PS mobile vaccination program or through other means.
Providing access to the vaccine to as many students and programs as possible over the summer is in line with the District's Roadmap to Reopening goal of keeping our community of schools safe. Ultimately, NOLA-PS is committed to helping protect the health and safety of our students and their families and help them feel more comfortable about returning to in-person learning in the fall.
To that end, NOLA-PS will continue to encourage its community of schools to participate in the mobile vaccination pilot program.
