WHAT:

Exactly one year after New Orleans first went into lockdown and all public schools closed to in-person learning as the COVID-19 pandemic surged, NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) is marking a new milestone: All public school teachers, educators, and staff have been given the opportunity to get their first round vaccinations through local health partners.

NOLA-PS, our schools and local healthcare partners accomplished this momentous task in under three weeks.

On Friday, the last few NOLA-PS staff who expressed an interest in receiving the vaccine through the District's hospital and health partnerships will receive their initial dose of the COVID-19 vaccine from Children's Hospital representatives. This includes Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr., who will wait until all NOLA-PS educators and school staff have had the opportunity to receive their first round.

We are grateful to the state, Children's Hospital of New Orleans (CHNOLA), New Orleans East Hospital, and many other healthcare partners for providing the opportunity for our educators and school staff to be included in the state's vaccine distribution.

THIS MEDIA AVAILABILITY IS DISTRICT SANCTIONED, DESIGNED TO CAPTURE CONTENT OF SCHOOL EDUCATORS/SUPPORT STAFF, AND DR. LEWIS BEING VACCINATED. THIS IS THE ONLY OPPORTUNITY TO GATHER THIS CONTENT.

THE SAFETY OF OUR STAFF IS OUR TOP PRIORITY. FACE COVERINGS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES, AND THERE WILL BE DESIGNATED AREAS FOR MEDIA TO STAND.

ALL MEDIA MUST RSVP TO COMMUNICATIONS@NOLAPUBLICSCHOOLS.COM BY Thursday, March 11 @ 3:30PM.

WHEN:

Friday, March 12 • 9:45AM – 10:45AM (event is not open to the public)

Dr. Lewis to be vaccinated at 10:45AM sharp.

WHERE:

Central Office Board Room (event is not open to the public)

2401 Westbend Parkway • New Orleans, LA 70114

WHO:

-Dr. Leron Finger, CHNOLA Chief Quality Officer

-Dr. Henderson, Lewis, Jr., NOLA Public Schools Superintendent

-District Staff

Why:

NOLA Public Schools and its community of schools are excited that all of our educators and staff interested in receiving the vaccine through the District's hospitals and health partnerships have received their inoculations in record time.

The District anticipated it would take 6-8 weeks to connect all schools to initial doses of the vaccine based on previous estimates of vaccine supply and capacity. Our ability to complete this process in just under three weeks is a testament to the commitment of our healthcare partners, schools' leaders, and school staff.

We'd like to take the time to thank all of our partners, like Children's Hospital, who've helped make this possible.

Following the media opportunity, a few staff and Dr. Lewis will be the last to receive the vaccine for photo/video opportunities.
