(New Orleans – November 20, 2020) – The annual unified application process for children wishing to attend NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) – the OneApp – opened today. New Orleans families can apply anytime until the application process closes on Jan. 29. 2021. Earlier application submissions are not given more weight; the OneApp match occurs at the same time for all Main Round applications submitted before the deadlines.

Some schools observe an early window deadline, including Audubon (Uptown & French), Lycee Francais de la Nouvelle-Orleans (LFNO), Hynes Lakeview French Immersion, Hynes UNO French Immersion, and International School of Louisiana (all campuses). The early deadline for these schools will be Jan. 15, 2021 to allow time for additional requirements to be met.

Families will be informed of their students’ placements in late March or early April.

“Last year, we adjusted the timeline to announce placements because our families and schools made it clear that knowing sooner where students were going was immensely helpful to them as they planned their school years. We’ll keep that going this year, too, to best serve our school families,” said NOLA-PS Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr. “We know that switching from or starting at a new school can be challenging, and we want to better serve families by ensuring they know where their student will be attending school earlier.”

Releasing results earlier also assists schools in facilitating record transfers, finalizing student rosters, and supporting transitions in a timely manner.

Through OneApp, NOLA-PS provides students and families the opportunity to choose a school that best suits their interests and needs through a centralized enrollment process. This speaks to the NOLA-PS vision of ensuring every student receives a high-quality education that fosters his or her individual capabilities.

Most families do not need to reapply to stay at their current school for next year.

Families need to submit a OneApp application for the 2021-2022 school year, if their student meets any of the following criteria:
• The student is new to New Orleans or new to public schools.
• The student is seeking to transfer from their current school to a new school for the 2021-2022 school year.
• The student is in a transitional grade, meaning their current school does not offer their expected grade next school year.
• The student is enrolled in a program that requires an application to continue, this information will be communicated to you by your child’s school.

It is important to note that applying early in the Main Round does not increase students’ chances of being placed in their top choices of schools. OneApp does, however, offer priorities for student placement based on additional factors, including the school enrollment of a student’s sibling and their geography in relation to the school.

Before submitting an application for the next school year, NOLA-PS encourages families to research school choices. To assist in this process, we provide several resources:
School profiles: K-12 schools and Early Childhood school profiles provide information on school location, grades served, school performance, and extracurricular activities. Visit www.enrollnola.org to filter the school options, click “Find”, and select whichever criteria is important to your family in selecting a school.

Guidance for Families: Additional online video and interactive resources are available on EnrollNOLA’s website and can assist you in making smart school choices, filling out an online application, and more.

Families that do not participate in the Main Round are welcome to participate in the second round of OneApp, which is scheduled to open one week after the Main Round results are released in late March or early April.
